Fishing Breaks in Cornwall
Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the North Cornwall Coast, Newquay has always been a fantastic place for fishing.
The curve of the headland around what is now Newquay harbour provided natural protection from bad weather and a small fishing village grew up in the area. Up to the early 20th century, the small fishing village was famous for pilchards and there is a "Huer's Hut" above the harbour from which a lookout would cry "Heva!" to call out the fishing fleet when pilchard shoals were spotted. Whilst Newquay no longer has any involvement in pilchard fishing there are plenty of other fish to catch.
Newquay Harbour is still a working fishing harbour but is also home to many a pleasure boat and is a hive of bustling fishing trips. In season and out, there is a trip to suit the most ardent angler across to the enthusiastic day-tripper. For up-to-date information on what's available right now visit the Newquay Harbour website.
If you'll be holidaying in a group with some people less keen on gemming up on some angling, there's also a range of pleasure boat and speed boat trips that leave from Newquay Harbour.
