Beaches
The Bay Hotel is situated within close reach of Newquay's finest beaches. And with 13 in total to choose from you’re certain to find your perfect beach nearby.
The most westerly beach, Holywell Bay, boasts large sand dunes and great sunsets. Fistral Beach and its golden sand is known as the surfing mecca, Newquay Harbour is a small but hidden beach where you can watch the fisherman bringing in their catch or the gig-rowers heaving their boats over the breakers to the open seas.
Protected from the winds and waves, Towan beach is another family favourite. At low tide you can walk along the golden sands to neighbouring beaches; Great Western and Tolcarne. Lusty Glaze is a small cove with beautiful sands sheltered by dramatic cliffs and Porth Beach, Whipsiderry Beach, Watergate Bay and Bedruthan Steps are located further along the coast, but accessible via the coastal road.
So whether you are looking for activity, a place to unwind, build sandcastles or just stroll along with the sand beneath your toes you will find your ideal beach in Newquay.
From May to late October lifeguards patrol most of the beaches including Crantock, Fistral, Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, Porth and Watergate Bay. Take notice of the safety signs and be aware of strong rip currents. Always swim between the red and yellow flags and if you're learning to surf stay between the black and white flags.
For more information on beach safety, to give you peace of mind, our professional surf instructors at the Quiksilver Surf Centre (located at our sister hotel, The Esplanade) will happily answer any queries you may have.
