'We Are A Force For Change, We Are Macmillan'
We are pleased to announce that The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay will be partnering with MacMillan Cancer Support in 2013 to help raise funds for this fantastic charity. We are raising money for the South West division of the charity, all our fundraising will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Support for Devon and Cornwall.
MacMillan Cancer Support is a British charity providing specialist health care and financial support to people affected my cancer.
'Reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.'
The charity was founded, as the Society for the Prevention and Relief of Cancer, in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan following the death of his father from the disease. In 1924 the name was changed to the National Society for Cancer Relief, which it retained until 1989 when it was changed to Cancer Relief Macmillan Fund, later changed again to Macmillan Cancer Relief. From 5 April 2006 Macmillan Cancer Relief became known as Macmillan Cancer Support as this more accurately reflects its role in supporting people living with cancer. It has adopted the principles of being a "source of support" and a "force for change".
MacMillan are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, but help for carers, families and communities.
They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help!!
People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support and MacMillan are there to listen, advise and share information though their cancer support specialists, website and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs.

How we will be raising money
Throughout the next year, we will be raising money in a variety of ways, collection boxes, pin badges, sponsored cocktail, events, we will be taking part in the World's BIGGEST coffee morning on 28 September 2013 and a member of staff will even be running a half marathon!
