2012 Charity of The Year
We are pleased to announce that the Children's Hospice South West is our 2012 charity of the year.
Childrens Hospice South West helps and supports children who are living with life-limiting conditions which mean that sadly they will not reach adulthood. We provide a loving and caring place for every member of the family from the point of their childs diagnosis, often for many years throughout their journey to bereavement and beyond.
The Precious Lives Appeal, to open a new hospice to support the families of Cornwall and Plymouyth, was launched at the beginning of September 2007 and on 5th September 2011 the announcement was made that the appeal target had been reached.
Meeting the target has meant Childrens Hospice South West has been handed the completed building, but the hard work doesnt stop here. Our fundraising continues as we strive to raise funds to sustain our service.
Little Harbour opened its doors to our first families in December 2011 and is most conveniently situated for families who live in Cornwall, Plymouth and parts of South Devon.
At Little Harbour as with all our hospices, families will discover individual childrens bedrooms, accommodation for parents and siblings, a wide range of play and therapy facilities including soft play, a messy play area, a Jacuzzi and a multi-sensory room and a homely family kitchen and living room.
Little Harbour offers a range of services such 24 hour telephone support, respite stays, palliative care and end of life care, support for parents and well brothers and sisters, as well as help, advice and support in bereavement and beyond.
Each and every year, sadly there will continue to be life-limited children and families who will need to use Little Harbour and our other hospices, Little Bridge House in North Devon and Charlton Farm in Bristol. These vital services are free to the families and we rely on the generosity of supporters to enable us to continue to make the most of short and precious lives in our region.
The need for the very special care we offer at Little Harbour will never go away, but with the support from companies like The Nettleton Group we can continue to provide this vital support.
Quote from Bernadette Thoreau, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Childrens Hospice South West:
Our hospices could not provide the care they do without the love and support of the people of the South West. By nominating Childrens Hospice South West as charity of the year The Nettleton Group are helping us to deliver our promise to make the most of short and precious lives across the South West. We are so grateful for the support as with their help we really can make a difference to families with a child who has a life-limiting or life threatening condition.
