“Wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else in Newquay!!”
Date of review: 23 May 2011 - New
1person found this review helpfulJust returned from a 4 day trip to visit friends in Newquay and stayed at this hotel after getting a booking within my budget. It is a great hotel with lovely staff, room's, service, views and location. My room was better than I imagined it would have been when I placed the booking, this considering that I was a solo traveller on a tight budget and had only paid for what I thought was a value single room. However, the size of the room was very very good to me. It was spotlessly clean and fresh as was the bathroom, and kept to this standard every day of my visit! Great comfy bed! The hotel is also a green hotel, with a fantastic door card idea that controls the electricity usage in your room by inserting the card when you enter the room(turns all the power to the room on /off). The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, I even had a note posted through the door on my first morning to check that I was enjoying my stay and to remind me to ask if there was anything that I needed, which I think is great customer service and just a nice touch. I met a member of the housekeeping team this morning, although briefly, and again this proved to me what a great team The Espalande has, cheerful, happy and accommodating. I didn't stay at he hotel with any restaurant bookings but would in the future. The location is spot on, stunning views over Fistral beach for a start, with grassland and benches across the road from the hotel, that personally If I had the time I could sit and admire the view from all day long! The walk from the hotel into town is short and enjoyable, along either a coast path across Fistral or around the golf course that is opposite. I arrived by car but apart from a short day trip around the coast, I did not have to use it. I paid to have a space in the car park at the hotel and it was there with my name on it and a pillar to keep it there when/if I moved away. Many good things to say about my short trip to The Esplande, I even extended my trip by a day because I felt welcome and comfortable. All in all I would not and won't choose anywhere else to stay in Newquay on future visits.

I stayed at The Esplanade for one night and recieved an upgrade from a budget room to a double ensuite. The hotel had all the facilities that you would expect from a much more expensive hotel and the breakfast and the view onto Fistral beach was good too.

I have just returned from a charity function of which 179 people attended which I organised and I did not receive 1 complaint but I did receive many complements regarding the whole package, the food, service , staff was 1st class so much so I have booked to return there again next year.

“Top notch hotel staff in a fine hotel”

Went with a large group (around 100) and was very impressed by all aspects of the Esplanade. Staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel interior is decorated in tasteful contemporary style (and has the comfiest two-person suede swivel chairs in the world). The hotel bar supports local real ale breweries and, even though the chef was catering for a very large group, the food was excellent at every sitting and there was no stinting on presentation.
The room had a beautiful view of the surfers on Fistral Beach, it was comfortable and warm and although there were a few niggles with the TV, they were quickly sorted by staff who seemed genuinely happy to help. The hotel and staff are a credit to the manager/owner. I hope to stay again in the future.

“Worth aiming for the best room”

Date of review: Jan 23, 2011
We booked ahead and got a special offer on "the best room" with sea view. It's worth doing this as it was a fantastic room: clean and large, with a balcony, overlooking the beach. You could sit in the bath and look out onto a fantastic sea view.

The restaurant was good too. Only criticism would be that in general the hotel felt a little old fashioned, but not a big deal at all.

Enjoyed the stay.

 “Bit of a let down”

We arrived during refurbishments, and found ourselves dodging workmen and bare flooboards. The room was nice and comfortable, but getting to it was not a very pleasant experience, as we had to step over tools, and old carpet, which the workmen had left lying about. Lots of banging and sawing. There was sawdust and splinters of wood. The cartons of milk in our room, were off, but they were replaced after we told the receptionist. The staff did everything they could to make the situation better, but think they were trying to hold back the tide. The food in the restaurant was very good though, which was a surprise. The pool was out of action, but we were allowed to use the facilities of the sister hotel, just down the road. Maybe we should try again, when the refurb is complete.

“Much improved since our last visit, very impressed with the food”

Enjoyed our stay, all staff friendly and helpful. Quality of meals excellent, and the service very prompt. The room was clean and comfortble though very hot even without radiator on. Only negatives i can find are very creaky floorboards in the room above us (we were 134), we could hear every footstep made in the room, including waking us in the night, and the crockery/cutlery wasnt as clean as it could have been.
